How Do You Choose an Online Degree Program?

by degree123 on December 26, 2009

So, you want to work towards an online degree and the first question is “How do I choose an online degree program?”  There are a number of ways to decide this:

(1) Content of Degree Course.
Online colleges tend to be stronger in some areas than others, even though they advertise many available and differing types of course, you need to take the time to research as many online degree programs and colleges as possible to ensure you find one which best meets your needs.

(2) Tutoring and Mentoring Online.
If you have been out of the school environment for a number of years, rejoining it can seem pretty daunting.  Coursework can be a real uphill battle and you can be very out of practice when it comes to writing lengthy pieces of work, or study for long periods.  Some online programs cater very much towards helping students overcome these problems so again, research this to make sure you give yourself the best possible chance of succeeding.

(3) Will the Tutor Be Sympathetic To My Needs?
All teachers have different teaching styles and we can all remember the teachers who got the best out of us, and those that didn’t.  Simple questions such as “How long have the tutors been teaching online?” or “How long do the tutors take to return homework?” and “Do the tutors respond to email fairly quickly?” can all help towards your decision on which online college to choose.

A simple rule of thumb for picking the best online degree program, don’t choose the first online college you come across.  It may turn out to be the one, but look at a few other options first. Hopefully this has helped answer, in a small way, your question of “How to choose an online degree program”.

Worst-Paying College Degrees

by degree123 on January 30, 2012

Getting a college degree is not only time-consuming, it can also make you spend a fortune as each school year passes by.

While there are high-paying jobs that you can get, there are also several worst-paying college degrees (inlcude online college degrees) that you need to be aware of. It is important to take note of these degrees so you would know your best options.

And when you take a look at the college degrees that bring in the lowest salaries, many of them qualify a person to work in a helping profession (social work, for example).

A majority of these degrees are associated with social work such as Child and Family Studies. Elementary Education degrees are also one of the lowest-paying majors, since teachers are one of the least paid employees today, especially those who work for the government. The list also includes Culinary Arts, Special Education, Religious Studies, Public Health and Art.

Of course if you are someone who is not after the paycheck, you can go for what you really love doing. But for people who get their college or university degrees to make a living and support their families, these are some of the worst-paying college degrees that you should avoid.
